Karnak Bandar Flyover: Central Railway Erects Massive 57-Meter Girder
Major Milestone Achieved in Mumbai’s Railway Infrastructure
Mumbai: Central Railway has successfully erected a massive 57-meter girder for the Karnak Bandar flyover, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing construction project. This complex operation took place during a special traffic block on Saturday night.
Historic Flyover Transformation
The Karnak flyover, which has stood for over 150 years between CSMT and Masjid station, began its demolition in September 2022. The new construction aims to modernize and improve the infrastructure. Last Saturday's operation involved the erection of a special 57-meter portal boom and the removal of old anchors.
Impact on Local Train Services
Due to the construction activities, local train services between CSMT to Byculla and CSMT to Wadala Road were temporarily halted. The block also affected other local train schedules. During this period, two old anchor portals on the main slow and fast lines along the harbour line were removed using three rail cranes simultaneously.
A New Engineering Feat
The newly erected 57-meter portal is one of the longest constructed by Central Railway, covering 10 tracks. Additionally, Central Railway has completed the construction of two other portals, each 53 meters long, between Masjid station and CSMT.
The Central Railway Administration has highlighted this achievement as a major step forward in enhancing Mumbai's railway infrastructure, ensuring better connectivity and safety for passengers.
